Abstract Instructions
The updated deadline for abstract submission is Closed.
In order to incorporate your abstract and author information into the meeting program, all abstracts must be submitted online via the electronic submission form found here. A Google email is not necessary, but you must sign into google to save your progress. This can be done with most email extensions (e.g. yahoo, Hotmail).
Ethics Statement
All meeting attendees will be required to agree to the Society for Wildlife Forensic Science Ethics policy upon meeting registration. Failure to agree to the Ethics policy will result in the removal of your abstract from consideration for the SWFS meeting.
Guidelines
Abstract Title
- A short, specific title
Abstract Body (250 word max)
- 1-2 sentences of background
- 1-2 sentences stating question or hypothesis.
- Brief summary of the methodology
- Brief summary of the key results/interpretation.
Translation
It is the presenter’s responsibility to translate content into English; Google Translate or DeepL Translator often provide acceptable translations.
Presentation Format
Oral Presentation
Please use Microsoft Windows version 7 or earlier for PowerPoint presentations. Presentations will be between 15-20 minutes with a couple of minutes for questions (length of the presentations is going to be dependent on the number of presenters; this information will be forwarded after the February 1th deadline). Please plan on providing a copy of your presentation on a USB drive. The presentation will be downloaded and the USB drive returned to you.
Poster Presentation Format
Posters should be printed on a single page measuring no more than 36” x 56”, portrait orientation is preferred. Poster paper set up information will be provided a few week before the conference. At least one of the authors is expected to remain with their poster during the evening poster session.

After attending this meeting, attendees will be familiar with the role of insects in wildlife investigations, a sample collection process, a preservation process, and a sending process. Attendees will become more familiar with the courtroom aspect of law enforcement. On the genomic side, attendees will learn more about the history of techniques, marker development, overview of analysis, applications of technique.
These presentations and workshops will impact the wildlife forensic community by serving as a venue for the exchange of information between and among laboratories currently performing diagnostic analyses of samples for various wildlife law enforcement agencies.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to learn more about the new certification program being offered by the Society and discuss the standards and guidelines that have been adopted by the
Society. Attendees will get an overview of ISO regulations and the current proficiency program.
Presenters and attendees alike will discover the field of wildlife forensic science is ever expanding, and novel research is being conducted around the globe to find new procedures for identifying species, individuals and populations. The goal of protecting and conserving wildlife is shared by many and is an extraordinarily worthwhile pursuit.
